When did you find the courage to tell:
I was about 8 when I first told my mom.
What made you start your awareness movement:
Man, wanting to confront him for so long & always being told not to say anything about it.
Who inspired you:
My love for my kids & my oldest son who was 15 at the time. He always asked why they couldn’t sleep over their great grandparents & I’d tell him because they just can’t & that I’d tell him when I felt he was old enough. He never forgot & asked every year if he was old enough. He was 15 when I finally told him & he just fell in my arms & cried.
How did you find the courage & strength to cope:
Truth is I was born with it. I've always been the one standing up for family, friends & what's right. But it took a lot of prayer & growth to see & understand God purpose. It was hard seeing the lack of support from my mom, but I learned things are only as hard as we give them power to be. I had to learn that although we're family, some just don’t care anything about my well being & I had kids to live for.
What advice can you give to victims that don't know how to tell?
Have the courage to tell!
Molestation is not okay & don't let anyone convince you that keeping quiet is better for you. It's unhealthy, it'll drive you crazy & it will haunt you.
